As you enter the “D” lobby, you’ll spot the comfortable-looking vignette created by designer Pamela Livingston Hardy. Pamela describes the space, titled “Family Friendly,” as “a family room that represents a space with room for all to relax, play games, watch TV, and gather as a family.” These showrooms graciously lent furnishings for the vignette: Duralee, RJ Thomas, Ltd., Kravet, and City Lights Detroit.
Pamela also shared her design tips for family rooms:
KEEP IT COMFY: In a family room I believe it should be all about using the right products. The room must feel comfortable but also have great style and be a space where the family won’t have to worry that something will be damaged.
FORM & FUNCTION: In this setting I want to make sure that we used products that are moisture and stain resistant so that they provide longevity and functionality. With the use of a sectional you get great seating for watching TV and a place to relax.
PLAY GAMES: A user-friendly coffee table that’s stain resistant or non-breakable is an important component for game playing or quick snacks.
SAY CHEESE: The family room is the perfect place to add family photos in a large grouping. It will draw you into the room and remind you of the lovely memories spent together.
