Visit MDC’s “D” lobby, where you’ll see the July vignette titled “A Modern Traditional Sitting Room,” created by CLOTH & KIND designers Krista Nye Nicholas and Tami Ramsay. Their vision was to create “a chic yet highly livable space.” Showrooms that graciously agreed to furnish products for the space are Henredon Interior Design Showroom, Kravet/Lee Jofa/Brunschwig & Fils, The Ghiordes Knot, City Lights Detroit, Schumacher, and Michael Coyne Design.
Krista and Tami took the opportunity to share some of their design tips after creating the vignette:
ALWAYS START THE DESIGN of a room with something you absolutely ADORE. In this case, it was the modern and highly graphic original artwork by Susie Obst and the one-of-a-kind vintage Rougier floor lamps that had us at hello.
DON'T RESTRICT YOURSELF too much with what you think will “match.” Allow yourself to be driven by what you truly love. Trust us; it will all have a way of working together in the end!
FABULOUS TEXTILES are a must. Layer in an antique or vintage rug, loads of pillows, and a comfortable throw to make your space immeasurably livable.
LIGHTING is one of the best ways we know to add a modern twist to a seemingly traditional room. Bring in something ’70s mod or highly geometric (or both!), as we did here, to take a traditional room down a notch and create unexpected interest.
