Creating an open concept in a previously compartmentalized historic apartment was no easy task. With some creative design decisions, and an incredible team, our client can now enjoy beautiful views of Detroit from her spacious kitchen.

We believe each space should be a reflection of the person who lives within it. For this city-dweller, storage was not a priority. Instead we chose to let the playful backsplash step into the spotlight with simple floating shelves above the sink.

We love dogs, and we love people who love dogs. Designing spaces that reflect the end user includes our clients and their children - whether they be 2 or 4 legged. Comfortable and incredibly durable upholstery pieces are a staple for everyone to enjoy.

Bringing natural exterior elements inside is always a good idea. This loft has beautiful views of the Detroit River which inspired the “sunrise over the water” palette. Rich blue walls provide the perfect backdrop for playful yellow and gold details.

Can you imagine yourself here; reading a book and enjoying a glass of wine while looking over the serene Detroit river? Creating space for intimate moments like these with beautiful fixtures and furnishings is key when creating a retreat in the busy city.

The entrance of this MedSpa is dramatic and stunning. The shape of the vintage-inspired hexagon tile flooring is repeated in the golden facade of the reception desk. Above, a gorgeous chandlier stands out against a black ceiling.

We worked to convert two side-by-side businesses into one cohesive Medical Spa space. The vintage graphic black-and-white flooring connects the two spaces with playful splashes of colorful furniture, adding layers of personality.

A simple sleek storage unit with gold accents is the perfect place for our client to showcase product. With beauty and functionality at the forefront, this piece is able to blend seamlessly into the design of the overall space.

Playful vignettes were created at each client chair. Graphic molding details, assorted vintage dressers and an abundance of greenery set the tone for the experience for every client to enjoy.

This home nestled in lush landscapes called for a monochromatic palette paired with subtle pops of color. The bright blues maintain a natural feel but provide the desired contrast to the warm wood tones.

Incorporating natural details was a must for this client. The subtle detailing of the wood-grain area rug complements the tones in the gorgeous dining chair upholstery, with a more literal interpretation of nature with an organic branch back.

Some design elements are just better together. The various shades of blue in the artwork above the buffet help to pull out the subtle blue detailing in the floral wallpaper.

Utilizing the space while maintaining openness became a balancing act but resulted in the perfect heart of the home. The large island with a stunning countertop act as the anchor that this family entertains around.

Connecting spaces by creating a cohesive palette helps to invite this cozy kitchen nook into the rest of the space. We used the beautiful blues of the dining room as inspiration for the playful turquoise bolster pillows.

With a love of color, pattern, and texture, as well as the courage to take a few bold risks, this client gave us the opportunity to transform their space into a truly artistic and one-of-a-kind creation.

The original inspiration for the space came from the cherry blossom fabric used on the custom occasional chairs at the end of the bed. We layered patterns, and highlighted the gorgeous purple flowers with bold shams and a comfortable rug.

Have no fear! Powder rooms are the perfect place to insert personality. The custom paper is contrasted by the black found in the molding and window treatment add in some gold detail for a mixed metal surprise.

Instead of hiding the strange angle of the vaulted ceiling, we highlighted it with a graphic wallpaper that featured the same bold angles. The paper inspired the selection of the modern entertainment unit as well as the chevron accent pillows.

Color, pattern, and texture - we truly believe this space has it all. The marble and gold cocktail table, scalloped cowhide rug, and a plush white throw add interest without competing with the bold pattern in the wallcovering and coloring of the sofa.

The Historic Fort Shelby Hotel in Detroit had an incredible existing palette with the original limestone flooring and brass elevators. Bold black-and-white graphics in the new artwork and tile elevates the space while maintaining the historic vibe.

A completely neutral space by RLC?! We know, it’s rare. But the creamy neutral backdrop was perfect so the more adventurous details like the black molding and plush black leather furniture shine. We think it’s the epitome of sophistication and class.

The bold color scheme and classic lighting silhouettes give this restaurant the perfect retro, edgy vibe that our client desired. Traditional materials like subway tile are given new life with bold color choices and unique installation techniques.

Black-and-white checkered flooring was a must when infusing the space with a retro vibe. The red chairs provide an exciting jolt of color in an otherwise monochromatic palette.

Large windows are a popular feature in commercial spaces. Instead of letting the space remain under-utilized, we chose to incorporate a drink rail. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a bite to eat and the view of the busy city outside.

Swoon-worthy staircase? Check! The linear lines of the mid-century meets industrial staircase are a striking feature in this amazing residential property. Rich walnut and gritty steel are a match made in staircase heaven.

Tucked away on the opposite side of the staircase is a perfect spot to sit down and enjoy conversation with guests, or a round of Monopoly with the family. The tall ceiling are highlighted with dramatic lighting against a background of metallic cork.

We’re ready to plop down on this plush sectional, which was designed custom to the needs of our client. Durability and comfort were key factors when selecting fabrics and finishing for the furniture in this family home.

The undeniable heart of this home is the modern kitchen. It’s anchored with a dynamic island featuring an overhead ceiling detail that effectively separates the kitchen from the adjacent dining space.

Our client was not intimidated by a bold color selection. The orange detailing in the rug enhances the natural warmth of the walnut finishes in the accent wall while providing contrast to the cool nature of the concrete tabletop.

Organic shapes in the dreamy bedding create a subtle juxtaposition to the linear European lines in the master bedroom feature wall. This is a space the entire family comes to relax - furry friends included.

A neglected front room became a dynamic yet durable “theater room.” The stain-resistant sectional and Flor squares offer ease to parents when their children have weekly sleepovers, while not sacrificing their high-design style.

One of our most celebrated projects has been the penthouse at the historic Book Cadillac building. The oversized windows throughout the space capitalize on the incredible views of the city in each room.

As the Book Cadillac embodies such a rich history, black-and-white marble gracing the floors felt perfect for the space. The marble made for the perfect backdrop for a bold pop of color found in the velvet navy sofas.

We worked with our client to select the most magnificant piece of granite for their center island. The bold black-and-white piece has so much detail and movement, transforming the counter into a true work of art.

A traditional yet striking master suite was created by first layering natural grasscloth textures and classic patterns in the wall treatments. Incorporating traditional sillhouettes and lush textiles adds depth and personality to the space.

Can you believe that this space was the former mechanical tower that powered the entire Book Cadillac? It’s now the space that a power couple comes to relax and enjoy their spa-like oasis above the Detroit skyline - usually with a glass of wine in hand.

The whimsical custom wallcovering, juxtaposed with 1940s vintage fixtures the client collected on her travels, makes for a show-stopper as guests need a quick reprieve from the lively party adjacent in the great room.

An exploration in shape, scale, texture and color - the dynamic design of the mantel offers an opportunity to feature art while not sacrificing storage on the opposing side.

Playful pops of color and pattern helped us achieve our goal of infusing our client’s modern Birmingham home with the familiar charm of her Southern roots. Switching out the cold chrome fixtures with brass creates a familiar warmth.

A small powder room is given life with the addition of playful blue trim details. We continued to explore shape with the wallpaper, mirror, and fixture selections. Hexagons, triangles, squares, and circles - this bathroom has it all!

Every inch of a space is an opportunity to echo the voice of our client’s vision. A variety of shapes and textures work together to make this staircase an exciting surprise for guests entering the second floor.

A delicate balance between modern pieces and vintage heirlooms was maintained when designing this dining space. We breathed new life into Grandmother’s credenza by pairing it with the colorful graphic backdrop.

A cohesive color palette connects the living room to the adjacent dining room. A neutral backdrop allows for faux deer heads, oversized art, and layers of throw pillows to take centerstage, creating a space full of personality and whimsy.

Thoughtful accessories help to elevate the voice of the homeowner. Whether that be a stack of books that speaks to one’s goals or bright colorful accents that mimic a vibrant personality, no detail is overlooked.

Breathing new life into a vintage sofa with durable blue crushed velvet creates a stunning juxtaposition against the two mid-century modern globes. Not to mention a favorite napping place for the client’s two dogs.

Guests are welcomed into this moody guest bedroom retreat. Bold splashes of green above the black wainscotting, layered in the bedding, and window treatments create a cohesive palette with the abundance of black and white.

Add greenery - it’s the oldest trick in the book. But thoughtfully elevating the styling hack with bold geometric elements like this unique vase and bedside terrariums is a RLC special.

The Film Lab is an Art Deco meets mid-century inspired micro-cinema and bar located in the old POST 1 P.L.A.V. building in Hamtramck. We kept as many original features and incorporated vintage furniture to honor the history of the space.

On of the most striking features of the original space was the authentic 1950s paneling. We chose to highlight this detail with lighting that showcased the original beauty.

“The Film Lab will foster a diverse community of film lovers and makers spanning citizenship, ethnicity, and language.” We loved working with a small business with such a progressive vision.

This bachelor wanted to create an elevated space that was sophisticated with a masculine touch. Accenting the deep navys and distressed wood detailing with crisp white accents keeps the space feeling bright and fresh.

We cannot imagine a better spot to relax and enjoy the game. The oversized sectional and upholstered cocktail table maximize comfort without compromising aesthetics. If watching football on Sunday looks this good, count us in!

Designing our office in Detroit's Islandview neighborhood was the perfect opportunity to show the exceptional results of facilitating collaboration as our entire team helped to develop this design, making it a perfect reflection of who RL Concetti is.

Beyond the programming of the space, we wanted to incorporate as much Detroit Grit as possible. We utilized repurposed local materials in a graphic wainscotting and featured work from local artists like the one seen above by Michael Polakowski.

Our Selections Library is unique because it offers us a readily available resource during the selection-focused phase of our process to find products and materials that reflect the voice of each client that we have the pleasure to work with.

We took 1,500 square feet that housed six different office spaces and created two spaces focused on facilitating collaboration and the disregard of hierarchy.
