WALLPAPER: A Popular Trend is Back Again
by Whitney Rogers,
Manager of F. Schumacher & Co., Suite 110

Wallpaper is back and it's bigger and bolder than ever! Usages range from an entire room - including the ceiling for a dramatic designer look - to just one wall, to create a focal point in a room. Today’s papers offer a myriad of patterns, colors and textures that could never be achieved with paint alone. Here’s a look at some of the latest trends we're seeing:

GRASSCLOTH
Texture, texture, texture! Grasscloth is back in a big way with inspired weaves and rich, new color schemes. F. Schumacher's Thai Leaf pattern uses manufactured layered leaves to take this look to a whole new level!

DAMASKS
Elegant statement damasks have been updated with non-woven and natural textured grounds to create surface interest that we don't normally expect from a damask.

PRINTS
Prints on natural grounds are new. Innovative techniques of digitally printing on softly textured grasscloth add a subtle pattern to a texture background, while printed papers with an overlay of fine sisal add unexpected texture to the printed pattern. Also, prints with geometric patterns are making a comeback in new colors suited to today's homes.

FAR EAST INFLUENCE
Designs inspired by motifs from the Far East have exploded on the scene. These include colorful ikats and chinoiserie, as well as subtly elegant tea papers, geometrics and leafy patterns.

Your walls are a canvas and wallpaper adds texture, color and pattern to them in ways that no other design element can. It's extremely versatile – it can be big and bold or subtle and understated – and is available in a wide range of materials. Stop by Michigan Design Center with your interior designer and see all that is now available, you'll be astounded at the selection!
