MICHIGAN DESIGN CENTER PRESENTS CATWALK – COUTURE FOR A CAUSE, A GALA FASHION SHOW AND AUCTION TO BENEFIT THE BARBARA ANN KARMANOS CANCER INSTITUTE, PARTNERS.

Join Michigan Design Center for CATWALK – Couture for a Cause, an exclusive runway fashion show and auction featuring one-of-a-kind couture garments, created from MDC’s fabric collections by 27 of the area’s most respected INTERIOR designers – all to benefit The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute, Partners. This inaugural event will take place on Thursday, October 11, 2007 in the Mid-America Room at Michigan Design Center in Troy.

The festivities kick-off at 6 p.m. with a cocktail party reception, featuring wine, champagne cocktails, hors d’oeuvres catered by Splendid Plates and a silent auction. At 7:30 p.m., haute couture meets home décor as the eagerly anticipated runway fashion show unveils the 26 custom couture outfits created exclusively for CATWALK. Immediately following the runway showing, auction paddles will start flying as Robert DuMouchelle of DuMouchelle Art Galleries begins auctioning off each of the exquisite ensembles with 100% of the auction proceeds to benefit KCI, Partners.

Featured interior designers are Kim Abbott, Rina Andrejev; Kathryn Bailey, Rick Anthony Bonner, Vita Buffa, Michael Coyne, Kristen Catto Armstrong, Rosemary Cotter, Lucy Earl, Christine Freeman, Amanda Fuller, Georgia Keena, Julie Kudzia-Serilla, Michelle Mio, Lauren Misch, Deb Moody, Allison Parris, Heidi Parris, Jill Schumacher, Basma Shamoun, Linda Shears, Kathy Souphis, Jacquie Traub, Cynthia Tupper, Phyllis Whitehead, Jane Wit and Carol Young.

Designers selected from among thousands of exclusive fabrics available at MDC’s fabric showrooms, including B. Berger, Baker / Rozmallin, Brunschwig & Fils, Callard & Associates, F. Schumacher & Co., Kravet / Lee Jofa, Marie-Howard Showroom, Pindler & Pindler, Inc., Robert Allen | Beacon Hill, Baker / Rozmallin, Stark Fabrics, Tennant & Associates and Thybony. Showrooms / manufacturers donated the fabrics for the cause and from there, the talented interior designers switched from home décor to haute couture as they went to work creating one-of-a-kind, couture garments that are absolute must haves for fashion connoisseurs. The evening will offer everything from full length gowns and swing coats to cocktails dresses and business ensembles. Hair styling will be provided by FIGO Salon in Birmingham and makeup will be done by Estee Lauder at Neiman Marcus.

Local television personality Rhonda Walker, anchor of WDIV Local 4 News will host the elegant evening. Robert DuMouchelle, general manager of DuMouchelle Art Galleries, will wield the gavel during the live auction. Honorary co-chairs Marvin and Betty Danto will be on hand to lend their support to the cause.

CATWALK is sponsored by Michigan Design Center with generous contributions by Splendid Plates Catering, DuMouchelles, Hour Media and Detroit Home magazines, FIGO hair salon, Estee Lauder Cosmetics and Tepel Brothers Printing.

Tickets are $75 for Enthusiast level and $150 for the Fashionista level with priority seating during fashion show and auction and a special gift. All tickets include silent auction, runway show and live auction, wine and hors d’oeuvres.
